F for Fashion!

Here I was all confused about what to write for my 'F' post. Just a few hours ago I got to go to a fashion show by famous Designer Azeem Khan. It was a special preview of his collection 'Indian Darbar at Buckingham Palace' line held at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

The collection was beautiful! There was men's & women's wear. There was a lot of gold in all the outfits, there were cocktail dresses, lehengas, & what not. Also, comedian Vir Das was the host for the night (That guy is freakin' hilarious. OMG I was rolling with laughter & my dad thought I was drunk because I had a screwdriver.) There were performances by Sandip Soparrkar & Jesse Randhawa, & I got to see a ton of famous India models like Pia Trivedi, Tupur or Tapur Chatterjee (yeah they're identical twins & I don't know which one was here!) and a lot of other models who I recognized but whose names I don't know. And the show stopper was none other than Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut (they auctioned the lehenga she was modelling for charity. It went for rupees 1.5 lakhs.) And the food great! And the desserts: Wow. It was a slightly chaotic but very glam night.

I did click a lot of pictures, & came to one important conclusion. My BlackBerry camera works well outdoors, but really sucks with dim lights & strobe lights flashing all about. Uploading those pictures would be not just an insult to me but to photography in general. So I say that yesterday evening had 4 Fs: Fashion, Food, Fun & Family (because I went with my parents!)
How did you spend your day?

Love,

PS- This post is part of ABC Wednesday. Sorry International Readers, these local celeb names are probably not gonna mean anything to you!

Bitch Slap Review

First of all, Bitch slap is a film I have known about since a long time (March 2009 to be exact. At least that's when I first blogged about it.) I followed news about the movie for a very long time (I followed their twitter & subscribed to their YouTube channel).
I finally succumbed & ordered the DVD (unrated) from USA & watched it in May this year. I didn't think of reviewing it till I saw to my absolute shock that it's actually in Mumbai theaters right now!

First, about the film:
Bitch Slap is described as a post-modern, thinking man's throwback to the 'B' Movie/Exploitation films of the 1950s–70s as well as a loving, sly parody of the same." The movie is inspired by the movies Dragstrip Girl, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Kung Fu Nun, and the pantheon of blaxploitation films.
Now, what I thought of it. Keep in mind that I am very positively biased towards the film because it features Lucy Lawless, RenĂ©e O'Connor & Kevin Sorbo (Xena & Gabrielle from Xena: Warrior Princess & Hercules from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) in cameo roles. It also stars Michael Hurst (Iolaus from Hercules...) in a pretty big role. So, when I finally settled down on vacation in a very nice five star hotel, I was in a very good mood.
And then I saw the film.
It's maybe feminist in some ways, but I must admit it really did shock me (& it's not easy to shock me!) It has a non-linear story line, & more than half into the film, I was still confused as to who's who (maybe that was the point, still.)
It is full of explicitness (mostly verbal), is pretty crass, & there were a few times when I wondered whether I was watching a soft-core lesbian porno film (they did say it was inspired by Blaxploitation films!) Keep in mind that I am reviewing the unrated version, not the mulch you're gonna see in cinemas after it passes through the Indian Censor Board! It's full of hot women & has lots of mindless violence & fighting (cat fights mostly). It does have a few decent plot twists, though.
After I've said all that, I must say I still enjoyed the film.
And if you do wanna see it, take my advice, don't see in a cinema, get your hands on the unrated version & enjoy!

E for Elephants!

They are really gentle and loyal. I love how they lookout for their young, & I know that they're the only wild animal who actually 'adopt' abandoned young elephants from other 'families'! I love them.
Mom, elephant trainer & me. This elephant was such a darling! :)
I saw a lot of elephants when we went to Bangkok because the elephant is Thailand's national animal.
Have a fun week!

This post is part of ABC Wednesday. And thanks Mom for giving me the idea to write about elephants today.

Love,
Magali

The IndiBlogger Mumbai Meet (#indimum)

Hi everybody! Just back from the IndiBlogger Meet, & I want to write this post while everything is still fresh in my memory, even if it doesn't make too much sense.
Anyway, as I tweeted before I was going to the meet with my mom, who is also a blogger (well, kinda!)
Well, don't want to be too long, because you're probably gonna read about this on a 100 other blogs...
So here's my take- Had fun, met new people, loved the tee & other freebies. I didn't really carry a camera because I knew that they would be too many other people taking photos.
And if you're wondering what this picture is, it's this little exercise where you have to roam around writing on other people's charts. I love all the comments, except that I took this picture with photobooth hence they're mirrored so they probably look gibberish.
My Sheet! With lot's of sweet comments :) I really shouldn't have been so lazy & flipped the photo
I did meet get to chat with some really awesome people, some of whom I already knew & some I met for the first time. All in all a wonderful day. Kudos, IndiBlogger team! Can't wait for the next meet!
Someone thought they were funny!

Passion for Fashion?

By now everybody knows that I fond something new to like love every now and then. Well I think I've found flavor of the week? month? Who can say for sure?

And it's fashion!

A lot of things have contributed to my sudden liking for it. Right now I am very excited about it. And it's making me want to run off to Colaba Causeway for street shopping, much to my mom's chagrin.

The fashion I like is not the glamorous, make-up & high heels fashion. It's the large cloth bag, kolhapuri chappals & Ray-Bans sort of fashion. And of course if I really wanted to be fashionable (I am a standard jeans-and-tee person right now) I would have to wake up earlier in the mornings and take more than my standard 5-7 minutes to get ready!

What should I do? Should I start *yet another* blog for (my) fashion? Unsure, confused but excited.

<3,

ETA- As you probably already know, I went ahead & started a style / beauty blog. Check it out!

I Write Like - a fun tool for Writers and Bloggers

Do you write?
I was just surfing & tweeting & doing a million other things all at once when I found something cool (& I knew I had to share it on my blog!)
It's a simple little tool where you post two or three paragraphs of anything that you have written and they analyze your word choice & writing style and compares it with that of the famous writers.

My result-

I write like
Maybe I was a little disappointed because I've never heard of the guy. But I looked him up, & turns out that Cory Doctorow is a famous Canadian Blogger, Journalist & Science fiction author!

I'm not implying that this is accurate in any way, but a fun game nonetheless, don't you think?

So, I encourage you to give it a try & tell me who you write like in the comments section.

Love,

Judging Tattooed People

Today it happened again. What, you ask? Let me tell you- People (classmates) noticing my tattoo, coming up and then asking about it (the usual questions: what is it, how big is it, where did you get it, how much did you pay...)
Then I answer all their questions. Then their jaw drops, and they tell me something on the lines of 'We didn't figure you for the type.' or 'You don't look the type.'
And that got me thinking. Don't we all judge tattooed people? Freakish, Slutty, Cheap, whatever; we each have our names. (I agree that the choice of design & placement does make a difference.) Most people equate tattoos with either gangs or having no morals. I agree it's not mainstream fashion, but it's still better than you wearing those god-awful D&G knockoff Sunglasses. And that's the older school of thought. The younger people think that tattoos are very cool, and are only to be sported by die hard rockers and/or hip hop musicians. And maybe celebrities. And if you have tattoos, you must be a cool pot smoking, chucks wearing person who hangs out at all the coolest pubs/discotheques.
Many people ask me why I don't have a tattoo in a very visible place. I tell them I that I don't want to just flaunt my tattoos, I like to have the option of concealing them if I wish to. And it sure is amusing to see how people react to my tattoos! I like to be able to shatter people's fixed opinions about certain matters!

Cheers,
