Fed (ФЭД) 5C

Today I'm showing you one of my analog cameras, Fed 5C. It's not very new, but I've never shown it on my blog before.

These cameras are supposed to be cheaply made copies of Leica cameras. A part of the reason I bought this camera is the beautiful red leatherette. It's original. This camera was probably made sometime in the early or mid nineties. I usually buy most of my soviet cameras from dealers in former USSR countries. This was bought on eBay from someone who found it at an estate sale. It was sold-as it but since it's a fully mechanical camera & I had a good feeling about it I figured I'd take a chance & buy it.
It works! Quite well. It's built like a tank & the shutter is so loud. I ran a test roll through it & it turned out nice. I don't think I'll use it too much though.

ETA: Here are a couple of photos taken with this camera.

French Macarons ♡

french macarons french macarons
I've always wanted to try French macarons because they are so insanely pretty. And when I got my hands on them I went a little crazy clicking photos of them (both digital & film). They taste nice... they are so light & get over very quick.

Golden Half in Goa {2011} (Part II)

Continued from this post.

Superheadz Golden Half x Kodak 400
Most people know Goa as a getaway - a place to relax on the beach, party, drink, etc. I've always hated the blatant commercialization of Goa by people who know nothing at all about it's culture.
This is the Goa I've known all throughout my school days. I detested it then- it felt horrible to go stay in a place that seemed primitive in every way. Now I cherish those memories & know that I have unique experiences that most city people don't have. And yes, it's probably the reason I find it easy to adjust anywhere.

Hello, Goa

{some photos from our trip to Goa in summer '10}

Today I'm on my way from Mangalore to Goa (by train, oh how I dislike that). It's just mom & me, we will be staying at our house there & the resort. Sadly I don't feel enthused at the idea of going there because we always go there. But there are plans this time to go to Anjuna Flea Market, I've always wanted to go but we've never done so because it's the other side of Goa.

Republic Day

Polaroid 420 land camera x Fuji FP-100C
Some more Polaroids- These were taken on Republic Day (26th January) before & after the flag-hoisting celebrations at our apartment complex. I love the portrait of mom (she loves it more). It's perfect to me. Maybe the lighting would have been better if we waited for the sun to come out but still.
The one of me is taken by mom. I think I look rather silly in it. I was just constantly giving her instructions on how to focus, etc. I'm glad she got it, the focus is perfect.

Polaroid 420 Automatic Land Camera

Polaroid 420 Land Camera x Fuji FP-100C film
These are the first two images I took with my Polaroid 420 Automatic land camera a few months ago. I especially like the first one seeing as how it was the first photo I took with the camera & I was especially confused & jittery. I've taken a lot more since then & am carrying it around while travelling too.
I've got a few questions regarding the usage of this camera & film availability so if anyone would like a instruction post/tutorial let me know & I would be happy to do one. :)

Micky Mao's, Mumbai

Yesterday mom & me dined at Micky Mao's a Chinese restaurant at Malad. We had Ice tea & sizzlers - a meal served on a sizzling platter (it really hisses!)
Mom had the Prawn Chili Oyster Sauce meal & I had Paneer (Cottage Cheese), Mushroom & Babycorn in Hunan Sauce. They were both delicious. Afterwards we were served dessert on the house.
There was a large LCD TV in the dining area & when we were eating, we saw (quite by accident) Sachin Tendulkar's score his landmark 100th century (he is the first person to do it!) We don't usually watch cricket (ever!) but it was still a happy moment for us.
Best dining experience in a while. Later we wandered into the nearby mall (which has a Zara outlet!) & I got myself this lovely blazer. Also, if you're looking for more Zara clothing or shoes, check out these coupons for Buy.com.

So ever since I've got the new camera I'm enthusiastic to take more photos of everything. So I'm going to take a lot more photos of food & drink. :)

Also I have to mention that I leave for Mangalore tomorrow. From there I will be going to Goa, then I will be back sometime mid-April (I will be spending my 20th birthday in Goa!) Internet access will be very limited. I will be scheduling a good amount of photography posts, & I'd really love for you to keep visting & sharing your thoughts on the pictures. I will be replying to comments & emails & catching up with blog-visiting when I get back. I truly will miss the blogosphere. I hope to get a lot of good photos from this trip considering it's the last time we'll be going to Mangalore in a while.

Lots of Love,

Rebel Rebel

Three days ago mom & me went shopping with a plan. I got a new dslr- Canon EOS 550D (also called the EOS Kiss X4 in Japan & EOS Rebel T2i in USA & Canada).

{the new camera, clicked with the old one}

It's replacing my Canon EOS 1000D (EOS Kiss F in Japan & EOS Rebel XS in USA & Canada).
I still remember my posts back in 2009- thinking about getting the camera & then a very excited post when I got it. And when I read those posts it makes me laugh to think about what a noob I was back then- I had only used a Kodak KB10, a Canon PowerShot A550 & a Leica Digilux 1 before that. All on auto settings. Getting a dslr (even if it was an entry level one) seemed like a very big step- so intimidating. I have learned so much about technical aspects since then... But the thing about photography is there is always more to learn, & room to get better.
I had to think a while about whether I wanted to upgrade. My 1000D still worked well, plus I am shooting a lot more film now. But then I was bored of my old camera, I had used it for a little over two years & decided to get myself a new one. And it made sense to do it jut before embarking on a long trip, so I could carry it along. I have an arrangement with my parents, they pay for it for now & I pay them back in full eventually. I've done this before- paying for this particular camera is going to take a while though. Being a grown-up has it's downsides. [OMG, read the first comment on this post. Mom decided to gift the camera to me & she decided to tell me over a comment on a blog post! =D] For now the differences I am loving are the improved grip, the larger LCD, higher maximum ISO, the dedicated live view button & the capability to auto-focus in live view. It came with the EF-S 15-55mm II lens so I'm going to use it with that plus the EF 50mm f/1.8 II (nifty fifty).
When I think about my photographic journey, the relationship between digital & film is quite funny really. We start from the 1000D - it is digital. With it I learnt the absolute basics. But after a while I got bored with it. It was no longer much fun to shoot on a camera with a digital camera. That is when film came into my life. It was fun to use film, I read up & I went out & shot. I experimented. It made me happy & before I knew it I had learnt all the things about photography- the technical aspects I do detested learning with the digital camera (now I know why photo schools make you learn with film).
So in late November 2011 (almost exactly two years after getting the 1000D) I took it to a college event with no clear goal in mind. And I ended up shooting the whole event on fully manual settings- it may sound silly to some but it was a big AHA! moment for me. Film made me love digital again.
I used to joke that I treasure my Canon A-1 a lot more than I treasure my 1000D despite the fact that the A-1 costed one third the price of the 1000D. I can't really say which medium is better- they both have their place, really. Film is more fun, more satisfying. It gives me more joy. But digital is practical & fun in it's own way. It's for being frivolous with shooting & for much quicker results than film can give.
I'm excited to learn everything about this new camera & share photos taken with it. If you're looking to buy a new camera, take a look at this Overstock Coupon Code.

Golden Half in Goa {2011} (Part I)

Here are some photos I took with the Golden Half in Goa in May & June 2011. They are from the same roll as these photos & were taken the same time as some of these Actionsampler photos.

{Crossing Mandovi river; Fruit vendors at Mapusa Market.}

{Mom with my sunglasses (I totally forced her to wear those & pose there); near the Christmas tree.}

{The many churches & buildings that are a part of Old Goa...}
{...and some gratuitous beach photos of me.}

{I know I got silhouetted in both these photos but I love how they turned out. I must take more beach photos!}

{A distant relative's home; bumpy roads ahead.}

{Green fields & coconut tree plantations; Grace Church in Margao.}
Superheadz Golden Half x Kodak 400
I think the camera captured Goa wonderfully. Many more of these to come.
